Just Like Today (2020)

by Karen Mal and Will Taylor

I’ve never written a topical song. But this song was like a road block to me, a giant obstacle just sitting there like a boulder between me and writing any other next song. It was calling me. It took several months to complete the puzzle, but I knew I must.

I wanted to express my gratitude and wonder that the natural world still turns, delivering its majestic and mundane beauty, even in the pandemic. That we ALL, despite our differences, fundamentally want the same things: health and happiness for our loved ones. I wanted to celebrate the good in the world, but also acknowledge and honor the genuine suffering around me. My dad is also diplomat by nature. My heart breaks with all the divisiveness and polarity around. This is my way to hold hope for all humanity to be as one. - Karen
